“I invite you to come to one of my classes. I focus on teaching yoga in a professional, approachable and kind way to make your experience refreshing, rewarding and relaxing.”
One of yoga’s purposes is to create health and wellbeing. The ultimate goal of yoga is freedom from pain and suffering through the cultivation of a meditative mind. Iyengar yoga focuses on alignment, seeking a safe, healthy and therapeutic way to work. This way of working promotes a deep connection between mind, body & breath. Within the Iyengar tradition, there are an endless number of possible sequences, so it never gets boring. Each sequence is designed to develop a particular aspect of yoga.
Iyengar Yoga is is based on the teachings of the living yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar. He is the author of the classic yoga treatise Light on Yoga and began teaching in Pune, India, in 1936 at the age of 18. He also pioneered the use of props, such as blocks and belts, to help students attain proper alignment for each posture. Mr. Iyengar, together with his daughter Geeta and son Prashant, has developed a method of teaching traditional Hatha Yoga poses that systematically elevates each student’s ability and skill.
Yoga's benefits include:
